We are pleased to announce that the IE/OM technique of Quick Response
Manufacturing has recently been recognized by the Society of Manufacturing
Engineers (SME) through a major award. Specifically, Dr. Rajan Suri,
Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
has received SME's 2006 Albert M. Sargent Progress Award "for the creation,
development and implementation of the Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM)
philosophy - a comprehensive lead time and cost reduction strategy
aligning the entire enterprise to enable quick response to customer needs."
Additional details can be found at www.qrmcenter.org
It should be noted that the Sargent Award is one of SME's prestigious
annual awards: past recipients of this award include Dr. Genichi Taguchi
(internationally known for his work in Industrial Quality and Robust
Design) and Professor Ranga Komanduri (past Director of the Design and
Manufacturing Division at the National Science Foundation).
